the cake competiton or why this weekend was so funny

i decided to take part at the boudicca cake competition!

my entry was a cake recipe i made up myself – so lets call it an ” cake experiment”. I enjoy to cook that way but of course you need to take in account that you might end up with a failure.

So my idea was to make a “tahini, honey and thyme cake”.

1.

butter cookie ground
made out of different kinds of cookies and butter
mixed with rosted seeds and crushed pistachio

2.

topped with a tahini cream
a mixture of light tahini, cream cheese, honey and fresh thyme leaves

3.

more honey!

and a finishing of japanese black sesame seeds ( forgot to take a picture of that step!)

so now what i did not wrote yet is following:

i overslept that day so i had to rush out and be very very fast with everything
and in my fastness i bought salty turkish cookies for step 1.!
so it became a really salty cake… well my cake was described as a first sweet honey thyme taste followed by a nut taste and then a very very salty ending.

it was too funny!
but listen if you start something you have to go the whole way.. so i decided to still take part on the competition.

i was entry no. 31.
there been lots of cakes at the competition in all kind of colours and shapes – some very extravagance looking once , some fruity and some with lots of colourful sugar icing.

me and my friend been on the floor laughing ( well i was a mixture between laughing and super red from shyness) when the first jury members tasted my cake.
the first jury members been leila from leilas cafe and a girl called kitty who runs an ice cream cafe.
it was really the funniest thing to watch. leila took two spoons – i guess because she could not place the taste at first or maybe could not believe what she tasted…

a salty cake!

well okay i did not won but i was shocked that a carrot cake and a pear cake won this years competition.

and listen:
sunday was so funny too as i took part of a dance classes which was listed as:
This class is for the serious dancer/student who likes to work, and play, hard.

;-)

when all flew elegant like butterflies trough the room – i followed (as the last one)
like a
“stone who tried to fly”

it was really funny too!

what a weekend.!!
(but i felt like a winner anyways)

sunny sanny

yesterday was such a sunny day and i enjoyed my secret journey very much (if you cant remember about my secret journey read the post of the day before.!)…

… to make sure that today will be another sunny day i builded a “Teru Teru Bozu”.

“Teru Teru Bozu” is a lovely doll made of white cloth or a tissue. In japan – kids and adults make it when they wish for a sunny next day because they have a school trip or something else lovely and wonderful planned.

Important the “Teru Teru Bozu” is always display in the window.

“Teru” means: Sunny.
“Bozu” means: Little boy

Sunny sunny little boy.! lets see if you worked.

its a secret

after reading “it´s a secret” by john burningham.

i decided to get dressed with a paper hat and go on a secret journey myself… i would like to tell you where i go… but… as malcolm the cat in john burningham´s book says: “IT`S A SECRET”!

one day

one day i would like to buy for me and my future family a house in the countryside .
near a river or a lake. with lots of nice plants around… and many puff balls. so i can show the kids how the explode when you touch them. that would be lovely…!
i would organize excusions with the whole family to invented fantasy worlds in the forest.

baking lovely berry cakes and eating them with ice cream while playing nice music in the radio.
dancing madly until late at night and reading stories to one another in self builded blanket tents.
going on insect safaris and going on funghi forays. befriending all the animals in the grass, forest and lake near the house. doing costume parties with great themes…
organizing tea parties in huge trees and all of that… imagine.

oh i cant wait…

one day.!

perfect weekend or post 301

a perfect weekend is a nice happening we easily forget to value sometimes.!
so its nice to remind me how wonderful this one was.!

a wonderful weekend with

- reading my favourite books by john burningham

i, in particular like “Aldo” – its about a very very lucky girl who has a special friend called “aldo” -
not just a normal friend:
a wonderful rabbit friend
and
a secret friend who always comes when things go bad or when you feel lonely.

over the past month, my aldo was enrique…. but he is not a rabbit nor is he a secret. he is just a friend who makes me also a very very lucky boy.

- late night cinema shows until 3 in the morning ( but dont forget to dress warm.!) and get yourself a good amount of coffee or cola so you can take now and then a quick sip during the film.

- meeting up with my friends ana and sebastian and going on a fungi foray! dont forget to wear good boots to take you trough the wild nature of england.

in my pockets i took my loved little wooden knife which i bought in france earlier this year. i like to cut with that knife
….and to carry the knife in my pocket makes me feel very safe.

- riding with your bike trough town and if you ride your bike try out to make sounds while driving. it makes more fun believe me.
when i drive down hills a bridge and if i feel no-one can listen i make sounds such as …

- many dinners and lunch´s with nice friends and future friends such as diego. with whom i ate oven baked mashed potato´s and drank a apple juice.

diego makes nice work such as following.

(if you want to see more of his work check STUDIO FANTASTICO.COM )

- and how nice is a weekend if your book finally goes into print.! it will be in the stores 30/11.!

front

back

what a perfect weekend.!
and the best thing of all is that my weekend is still not over! :-)

little acorns

its nice to wake up under a japanese embroidery.

one of my favourite japanese saying is:

“Chiri mo tsumoreba yama to naru.”

which means

Great oaks grow from little acorns.
